How insurance companies are using Facebook

Are you on Facebook or MySpace? If so you should know that many insurance companies are asking for Facebook and MySpace references if you make a claim. In what some people view as a medium for information exchange between friends, insurance companies are using to defend and deny claims. If you did not complain about your injury to your friends you will hear about it from the insurance company. If you did complain about your injury or accident then they will not bring it up.

Insurance companies use only information that makes you look bad in defending cases. Clear liability no problem–will attack the victim. That is the insurance company motto and that adopted by the insurance defense lawyers they retain. Not every defense attorney fits into this category but a large portion of them do.

So before you post in what you think is a exchange between friends be aware that should you make an insurance claim the defense lawyer will be looking at your Facebook page.
